This online webinar, presented by Associate Professor Karen Stagnitti, introduces the different categories of play: gross motor play, fine motor play, visual perceptual play, auditory play, sensory motor play and pretend play. The lecturer explains how children built ‘scripts’, begin to logically sequence actions, use objects creatively, engage in social interaction and role play.
Participants are given a ‘play matrix’ to offer a conceptual framework for planning activities. They are given an evidence-based review of the process whereby play is transformed into literacy skills - story telling, problem solving and their educational outcomes.
Field research into play is also briefly discussed.
